|Site Layout with Ocean Intake & Ocean Disposal
If well-drilling are out of the question and not an option, it
may be necessary to establish the feed water supply by
means of an open ocean intake system as well as the brine
(concentrate) being returned to the ocean via a pipeline.
If ocean intake is the only option, a pretreatment system (multimedia pretreatment -
sand filter) will be required as a part of the water production process. With this type
of site layout (see drawing) and the holding tank constructed as an above-ground or
elevated storage facility, additional costs will occur from the pumps (capital costs)
and the related power consumption (operational costs).
